The ‘Call Me By Your Name’ Sequel Is Officially Happening
André Aciman’s follow up ‘Find Me’ will be released this fall.

Hours after the news broke that Armie Hammer isn’t interested in making a sequel to Call Me By Your Name, André Aciman has announced that he is officially writing a sequel to the novel the film is based on. So stick that in your peach and…you know.

Publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux shared a statement confirming that Aciman is hard at work conjuring another sticky summer romance about Elio, Oliver, Italy, peaches, and hopefully Mafalda — a true gay icon. The follow-up, Find Me, will once again center around the Pearlman family and the erstwhile “il cauboi” who changed their lives forever.

“In Find Me, Aciman shows us Elio’s father Samuel, now divorced, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit Elio, who has become a gifted classical pianist,” FSG’s release reveals. “A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami’s life definitively. Elio soon moves to Paris where he too has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe.”

In both Aciman’s novel and the film, it’s alluded to that Elio’s father Samuel has some hidden queer impulses of his own, and he counsels his son to follow his heart (he seems pretty chill with 17-year-old son fucking the 25-year-old grad student literally working for him in the next room). Might Aciman’s sequel finally give Samuel a queer romance of his own? What kind of fruit is he going to fuck? A watermelon? That’s a thick rind!

Find Me will be published on October 29, 2019.

What does this mean for director Luca Guadagnino’s planned follow up? In an interview with Vulture published Wednesday, star Armie Hammer said that he’s “coming around to the idea that the first one was so special for everyone..and it felt like a really perfect storm of so many things, that if we do make a second one, I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment. I don’t know that anything will match up to the first, you know?” But now that a second part of the story is canon, will he change his tune? Considering all the ideas Guadagnino has about the sequel, will it even follow the same trajectory as Aciman’s book? Or is this going to be a Game of Thrones situation, but gayer?

And, most importantly, what does Timmy think?
