Reader’s Question:

I’m a 25-year-old gay man and I’m unable to find love. All my friends have partners and have settled down with the usual commitments and responsibilities, yet I can’t seem to find this for myself.

I have tried dating sites, but I just feel like I’m worthless to the other people on there. Normally, it is me giving advice to people, but now I could do with some.

Do you have any suggestions?

Dear William,
First of all, you say you feel worthless – that is something that you need to work on.
If you are giving off this air of “I’m not worthy”, then people will pick up on it.
Of course you will be worth everything to someone one day, but you haven’t met that person yet.
Dating is like going shopping – you go out with a list of all the things you want but sometimes you can’t find them.
If you are looking for love but have too many things on your wish list, you might not find it and you could be missing out on someone who has only five things on your list but is worth taking a chance on.
Enjoy being single for now and not having “commitments and responsibilities”, and socialize more.
Don’t assume all your mates in relationships are blissfully happy.
They might be wishing they were single just like you.
